Incredible skiing, wonderful staff — but the hotel urgently needs renovation
We spent a week at Club Med Val Thorens Sensations, and the highlight of the trip was definitely the skiing. The mountain in Val Thorens is absolutely incredible big with the 3 valles all conected. The slopes are fantastic, well connected, and the overall ski experience is amazing.
The ski school is good, but group classes are quite large. For intermediate skiers who want to really improve technically, I would recommend private lessons. Group classes feel more like a tour around the mountain than focused instruction. That said, our instructor Gérarde was extremely friendly and positive and made the week very enjoyable.
The biggest downside is the hotel itself. It feels quite outdated and tired and is clearly in need of renovation. In some areas there was even a noticeable sewage smell, which was disappointing for a resort at this level.
Housekeeping was also inconsistent. A few times I requested a sheet change, but instead the staff kept bringing extra blankets, which suggested some communication issues. In general, communication can be difficult if you don’t speak French.
I also booked the jacuzzi one evening and unfortunately the water never became properly hot — it stayed only lukewarm.
That being said, the staff at the hotel are truly wonderful and deserve special recognition.
Daniel Cabral (Management) Wallace, Dylan at the Ski Shop, and Tadeu (all GO) and Chokri from Tunisia in the restaurant were incredibly kind and welcoming. They really made a difference in the experience. There was also a lovely woman serving ice cream in the evenings — unfortunately I didn’t catch her name — but she was exceptionally warm and friendly with guests. The food was very good!
The team was also very kind in offering us a late check-out, which we truly appreciated.
The spa area is one of the few parts of the hotel that feels more modern. I had a massage with Dolly, a Thai therapist, and it was excellent.
Overall, the concept is extremely convenient: ski-in/ski-out access, ski lessons included, and the all-inclusive format make the trip very easy and enjoyable. However, the hotel itself urgently needs renovation to match the incredible mountain and the amazing staff who work there.
